OAS CAHPS FAQ
When is OAS CAHPS mandatory? When should we participate?
The survey will be required and linked to reimbursement in CY 2024 for HOPDs and CY 2025 for ASCs. If an HOPD or ASC does not conduct and submit OAS CAHPS as part of the quality reporting requirement, they will receive a reduction of 2.0 percentage points in their annual fee schedule update.
What are the benefits of starting OAS CAHPS before it is required?
We’ve had the opportunity to work with many ASCs and HOPDs who are now participating in OAS CAHPS during the voluntary reporting phase. The biggest benefit is that they are positioning themselves for success by a) knowing where they score relative to other facilities. This is important to help them b) understand where improvements need to be made so that they c) don’t end up on the wrong end of the reimbursement model when CMS implements the pay-for-performance standard.
Can you tell me if my facility or department is exempt?
Absolutely! Even once CMS has implemented the pay-for-reporting standard, certain guidelines will permit a facility or department to file an exemption request. Contact us for more information.
Will I be charged for each additional call you have to make?
We will never charge extra if it takes more than one attempt to reach a patient. In fact, CMS allows us to call each patient up to 5 times! However, there are certain instances where completed surveys above the agreed-upon yearly target may occur, resulting in a small fee. We do our best to curb this by working closely with clients to understand their needs and volume before a new project is started. You will never be charged for anything outside of what is written in your contract.
How do you manage patient privacy with your comments upgrade?
We take patient privacy very seriously at Arbor Associates. Understanding that patients may be in a very delicate state following treatment, we’ve taken extra care to implement safeguards within our systems to prevent any possibility of their privacy being compromised. The data submission process alone includes secure file transfer protocols, our own protected data portal, and encrypted email.
